Store Windows: Live Transmission. 2012
The installation occupied eight store windows along Collins Av and 23rd street in Miami Beach in a building which also houses a Walgreens. It was a part of The Bass Museum’s Temporary/Contemporary series highlighted during Art Basal Miami.
We worked with Kiesler’s Modernist ideas, around fine art, theater and display. Playing with notions of desirability and consumerism the performances were interwoven with the Cristina’s prints and sculptures. We used a pirated radio station to broadcast soundscapes by Zemi 17 and the Gamelatron played through a boom box on the street.
The Myth of the Original That comes while Sleeping in the Endless Autumn. March 2006, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin. Miami, Florida.
Myth: a story or belief that attempts to explain a basic truth... a person or thing having only an imaginary or unverifiable existence
Original: belonging to the source from which anything arises or is derived...
Sleep: a periodic state or time of rest in which one loses consciousness, at least partly, and the body relaxes... a state marked by a diminution of feeling followed by tingling
Endless: the quality or condition of being immortal... endless life or existence... being or seeming to be without an end or limit... boundless: an endless universe... formed with the ends joined; continuous: an endless chain
Autumn: the season of the year between summer and winter, lasting from the autumnal equinox to the winter solstice and from September to December in the Northern Hemisphere
This performance was born out of a unique opportunity to collaborate with a dear friend’s surreal garden landscape sculpture, and her desire to activate the space with performance based in the tradition of gardens being used as place for the community to gather and celebrate the cycles of life.
